Cal Football was like a Rollercoaster Ride

Hello Barkers! I will be writing to you occasionally to let you into my life, the way I see it. Here is my first piece.

Football at the University of California was a crazy experience. The best way I can describe my football experience was a rollercoaster ride. There were a lot of up's and down's.

For the most part, it was truly a leaning experience. I learned how to play the game of football. I learned life lessons like passion, the importance of practice, teamwork, and trust to name a few. I call my experience at Cal a rollercoaster ride because there were times where I had to deal with situations that would bring any man to his knees. There were times where I felt like I was on top of the world.

The best thing I was able to attain at Cal was not the excellent education, but the relationships I made with my teammates, coaches, and fans. The relationships I built will hopefully last me a lifetime. I call my experience crazy because it was over before I knew it. Sometimes in life, people get into a routine. Cal football was so habitual that I didn't understand that my college football career was over until that routine was broken. Cleaning out my locker, saying goodbye to my teammates, and moving some of the last few items out of my apartment made me realize it's over.

  Rulon during your career at Cal, you embodiied the spirit of sacrifice. I saw team after team "game plan" you. I often wondered why opposing teams never seemed to run the ball to your side, it seemed that you were always persuing the play. well you are an athletic, intimidating player, I wouldn't run to your side either.The 3/4 defense is uniguely suited for your skill sets, you can play either LDE , RDE or even OLB. I am going to follow your career because I see pro bowls and hall of fame potential in the right system. keep that blue collar, workman lkie effort and you will be sucessful at the next level.

  Rulon, thank you for your service to America, and thank you for choosing to become a Cal Bear. I was very happy that you picked Cal over Nebraska, but I can't believe that was three years ago! Your play got better each year, yet the injuries set you back a little-- you have only scratched the surface of your talent--give it all you've got and I know you'll be successful at the next level.

  Rulon, from one Marine to another, I thank you for your service to your Country. I know the values that have been instilled in you and I know you will carry them until the end of your life. Thankyou for being an example of service and commitment over "self and popularity" which seems to have replaced morals in our society.
